Private Ground School
The ground school course is divided into four modules, which correspond to one of the four subject areas of the Transport Canada written examinations:
- General Knowledge
- Air Law
- Meteorology
- Navigation
You may begin your training at the start of any of the four modules.
Once you have completed the ground school and have at least 10 hours of flying experience under your belt, you can write the Ministry of Transport Written exam. The Private Written Exam (PPAER) will consist of 100 questions and requires a 60% pass mark overall, and a minimum of 60% on each of the four sections.
There are two ways you can complete your Private Pilot Ground School:

1. If you live in Edmonton, you can attend ground school at the Edmonton Flying Club.
Our exciting new private pilot course is no longer the traditional classroom lecture.
It is twice as long as that required by Transport Canada to ensure that you learn the information right the first time and ace your private pilot written examination.
Our ground school also includes videos, guest speakers, group activities, and hangar visits.
This is by far, the most comprehensive ground school you will find in the Edmonton area.
The Edmonton Flying Club's Private License Ground School consists of 80 hours and runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
